What is RSV?

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of respiratory illness during the fall and winter seasons. It can cause significant illness, particularly in older adults and infants who are at higher risk of complications.

​

RSV Vaccine Eligibility – 2025 Season

High-Risk Older Adults

​

All individuals 75 years of age and older are now eligible.

​

Individuals who are 60 years and older who are also:

  • Residents of long-term care homes, Elder Care Lodges, or retirement homes​​

​

  • Patients in hospital receiving alternate level of care (ALC), complex continuing care, hospital transitioning programs

​

  • Patients with glomerulonephritis who are moderately to severely immunocompromised

​

  • Individuals receiving hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis

​

  • Recipients of solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplants

​

  • Individuals experiencing homelessness

​

  • Individuals who identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Metis

​

If an individual has previously received a dose of the RSV vaccine, no additional dose is needed this season, as booster doses are not currently recommended.

Infants and High-Risk Children

​​

  • Infants born in hospital will be offered protection against RSV as part of their routine postpartum care. Caregivers will receive a yellow immunization card as documentation.

​

  • For all other questions about eligibility or timing, please call the office and speak with one of our nurses.
